| Epigram Books | |
An independent publisher based in Singapore, Epigram Books is known for putting together well-designed and thought-provoking titles. Epigram Books began as a division of the award-winning design firm, Epigram, but registered as a separate entity in July 2011 in order to strengthen its focus on championing local writing. Epigram Books is undertaking a new graphic novel initiative featuring five titles by prominent Singapore comics creators, the project debuts in 2012 as a showcase for excellent storytelling in the comics medium by both established and up-and-coming creators. Epigram books will officially launch these titles in November this year. These include Young Artist Award winner SONNY LIEW's The Art of Charlie Chan Hock Chye, a historical biography that attempts to uncover the forgotten works and life of a pioneering Singapore comics artist, and Ten Sticks and One Rice by comics artist KOH HONG TENG and writer OH YONG HWEE—this story captures the tribulations of an ordinary man as he struggles to make a living and endeavours to raise his young family through the rapid transformation of the early years of Singapore. Internationally acclaimed cartoonist MIEL's SceneGapore: A Cartoon Walkabout takes the reader on a humorous walk through time, touching upon a wide assortment of topics across various milestones in Singapore's history, while illustrator DREWSCAPE shares some unusual tidbits from life and beyond in his inimitably quirky tales of wonder and whimsy in Monsters, Miracles & Mayonnaise. Last but not least, award-winning novelist DAVE CHUA and newcomer NG XIAO YAN serve up some spine-tingling chills with a tale of the Hungry Ghost Month in The Girl Under The Bed. |
