Sakamoto Koichi

President of PEACE ARTS CORPORATION and Chairman of Japan’s Beauty Character Association

Growing up in a poor family, Sakamoto experienced the divorce of his parents in childhood, spending the first half of his teenage years with distrust towards adults. At the age of 16, he was deeply impressed with the work of his calligraphy teacher, who would become his mentor. This encounter with calligraphy would go on to change his life.

At the age of 18, he won first prize in a national calligraphy exhibition. After graduating from college, he was solely accepted as a public high school teacher in Saitama Prefecture for calligraphy among over 60 applicants.

In his third year, carrying on his own tradition, his student also won first prize in a national calligraphy exhibition.

In 2013, he resigned from his teaching job to become a full time calligrapher. Sakamoto is currently striving to unite the world with calligraphy, at the same time educating people how to realize their dreams.
